Drop-in Q&A session – new mandatory training on learning disability and autism

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death highlighted the need for health and social care staff to have better skills, knowledge and understanding of the needs for autistic people and those with a learning disability.

In July 2022, the Health and Care Act introduced a requirement for health and social care employees to receive training on learning disabilities and autism with the Oliver McGowan training being the preferred route.    BSW will be rolling out this training to healthcare providers in June 2023 and health colleagues will be required to book onto sessions.

To explain more about the training and answer your questions, Vanessa Ongley, BSW Academy Learning Pillar Lead and Sally Lloyd, Skills for Care are hosting a drop in session later this month:

There is no need to book a place at the session – just join a few minutes before the start time.  To remind yourself of the meeting, pop an appointment in your calendar with the relevant joining details.
