Initiative supports career development for Allied Health professional Support Workers
The BSW Academy is helping Allied Health Professional Support Workers (AHPSWs) in the area to boost their careers through supporting a development framework recently introduced by Health Education England.
AHPSWs work with and alongside allied health professions (AHPs) and provide high quality, life changing care across a range of acute and community services.
Health and care services in BSW need to ensure that AHPSWs have the right knowledge and skills, are supported by training and education, and have access to opportunities for career progression.
There is also a real need for initiatives to help attract newer AHPSWs and for them to follow a richer and more rewarding career pathway and feel more connected to their roles as rewarding careers rather than just jobs.
The new framework is designed to help employers across BSW Together ICS to effectively plan, develop and deploy their AHP support workforce.
It provides guidance on training, education and competencies for AHP support workers and demonstrates a clear pathway for recruitment and progression, with common and transferrable skills.
As part of its initiative to support AHPSWs and publicise the development framework, the BSW Academy is holding roadshows over the coming weeks which will give both employers and AHSPSWs a chance to find out more.
The roadshow events are taking place on the following dates at venues across BSW.
Friday 10 March- Great Western Hospital Swindon
Friday 17 March- Savernake Hospital Marlborough
Friday 24 March – Chippenham Community Hospital
