Free blood pressure checks offered at local events
People in BSW have been able to have their blood pressure checked for free at a series of events held in the region over the past few weeks.
Visitors to the Somerset and Dorset Railway Station in Midsomer Norton, Bath Rugby and the Alice Park Youth Music Festival in Bath were able to have the checks in pop-up blood pressure clinics, which were held as part of the national Know Your Numbers awareness drive.
Teams from local pharmacies were on hand to provide the checks and offer information on hypertension, as well as to explain how health and lifestyle changes can prevent high blood pressure.
Gill May, Chief Nurse, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board said: “High blood pressure is responsible for more than half of all strokes and heart attacks, and preventing it is a key priority for the ICB.
“Many adults living with high blood pressure are undiagnosed, so getting out and about in our local community is allowing us to raise awareness of this hidden killer, help to prevent heart attacks and strokes and, ultimately, improve the health of our local population.”
