Funding approved for GP practice upgrades
A government cash injection to help GP practices upgrade their premises will help deliver more than 8 million extra appointments each year.
Around 1,000 GP surgeries across the country, including some in Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire, will benefit from a share of the £102 million funding package that was recently signed off by the Health Secretary Wes Streeting MP.
The money will support practices in creating additional clinical space within their existing buildings.
Dr Amanda Doyle, National Director for Primary Care and Community Services, said: “Bringing GP premises up to a similar condition across England is an important step to improving patient experience of NHS services, while also making primary care a better working environment for staff.
“This money will also help to create additional space and extend the capacity of current premises, as more is done to improve access further and bring care closer to the people’s communities, as is set to be outlined in the new 10-Year Plan.”
Among the local practices set to benefit from the funding are Spa Medical Centre in Wiltshire, Park Lane Surgery in Swindon and Keynsham Health Centre in Bath and North East Somerset.
Projects will be delivered during the 2025/26 financial year, with the first upgrades expected to begin in early summer.
