New cancer information service opens at Salisbury hospital

A new cancer information service for patients at Salisbury District Hospital has opened.

Provided by Macmillan Cancer Care, the new hub is located inside the hospital’s main entrance and is open every weekday between 9am and 3pm.

The hospital’s cancer support team, along with trained volunteers, will be on hand within the hub to provide a drop-in service for people wanting to find out more about the help available for people with cancer.

Judy Dyos, Chief Nursing Officer, Salisbury NHS Foundation Trust, said: “We are pleased to provide this new service for people living with and beyond cancer, and are grateful to Macmillan Cancer Support for their generous grant which has made this possible.

“The Hub provides an easily accessible non-clinical space for the people we care for, their loved ones and the wider community to visit for information and support.”

Luke Curtis, Lead Cancer Nurse, said: “The hub incorporates the expertise and services of our cancer team from across the hospital and the partners we work with.

“The team can provide information resources to help patients understand and address what matters to them.”

Any person interested in volunteering at the hub is invited to contact Salisbury District Hospital’s Voluntary Services at sft.volunteering@nhs.net.
