New team appointed to lead NHS England transition
A new executive team which will oversee the transition of NHS England into the Department of Health and Social Care has been named.
Led by Sir James Mackey, Chief Executive Officer, the team – to be known as the NHS Transformation Executive Team – will replace the current NHS England executives and provide ongoing business priorities, statutory functions and day-to-day delivery.
The move to merge NHS England with the Department of Health and Social Care was announced earlier this month by Prime Minister Sir Kier Starmer, who described the process as one that would reduce bureaucracy and empower staff to deliver better care for patients.
Except for the Deputy Chief Executive Officer, all colleagues within the new executive team, which was appointed with input from the Secretary of State, will be in post from Tuesday 1 April.
While the roles of Chief Operating Officer and Chief Delivery Officer will no longer exist in the new structure, the team will feature two Co-Medical Directors, alongside a Financial Reset and Accountability Director and Elective Care, Cancer and Diagnostics Director, both of which are new positions.
The members of the NHS Transformation Executive Team are as follows:
- Sir James Mackey, Chief Executive Officer
- David Probert, Deputy Chief Executive Officer
- Meghana Pandit, Co-Medical Director (Secondary Care)
- Claire Fuller, Co-Medical Director (Primary Care)
- Duncan Burton, Chief Nursing Officer
- Elizabeth O’Mahony, Chief Financial Officer
- Glen Burley, Financial Reset and Accountability Director
- Mark Cubbon, Elective Care, Cancer and Diagnostics Director
- Vin Diwakar, Clinical Transformation Director
- Sarah-Jane Marsh, Urgent and Emergency Care Director
- Dr Amanda Doyle, National Director of Primary Care and Community Services
