Royal visitor officially opens RUH’s new cancer centre
This month saw Her Majesty the Queen officially open the new Dyson Cancer Centre at the Royal United Hospital in Bath.
Patients, staff, supporters and guests from the wider community were on hand to mark the occasion.
Her Majesty was given a guided tour of the new purpose-built centre, which brings together many of the RUH’s cancer services, such as oncology, chemotherapy and radiotherapy, under one roof.
The new centre is visited by more than 350 patients every day, and was made possible thanks to a £40 million government grant as part of the New Hospitals Programme.
Financial support also came from RUHX, the hospital’s registered charity, which raised an incredible £10 million, as well as from the James Dyson Foundation, in the form of a £4 million donation.
A further £1 million was also donated by the Medlock Charitable Trust.
Cara Charles-Barks, Chief Executive, Royal United Hospitals Bath NHS Foundation Trust, said: “It was a real pleasure to welcome Her Majesty the Queen to the RUH.
“The Dyson Cancer centre is a wonderful building which supports us to provide the highest quality of cancer care for our community.”
