Update 6: 17 December

During November and December, the Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire (BSW)  Partnership has continued its progress to become a thriving Integrated Care System (ICS) through a focus on recruitment, transition preparations, governance and engagement on our developing health and care model.

November saw the appointment of Sue Harriman as Chief Executive Designate of NHS Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board (BSW ICB) which is due to be established in April 2022.

Sue has been Chief Executive of Solent NHS Trust since 2014 and in February this year completed a six-month secondment as Chief Operating Officer for the national Covid-19 vaccination deployment programme. She is due to take up her position with the BSW ICB in February 2022.

At the same time, the process to recruit a number of Non-Executive Directors in areas including finance, audit, community and public engagement, quality and renumeration and people also got underway. Details of the available roles can be found here: Non-Executive Director positions

Meanwhile, our Shaping a Healthier Future public engagement programme to seek local people’s views on our in-development health and care model concluded in mid-December. People across BSW shared their thoughts and opinions by taking part in a short survey online and by attending in-person engagement events. Around 750 people completed our survey and almost than 1,200 people attended workshops and interviews. The results from these surveys and events will be fed into the health and care model development process.

November saw the launch of our Population Health Management pilot – part of a National Programme that aims to transform how we approach the design of health & care services.  We have also brought together 25 colleagues from across the BSW Partners to join the first wave of our System Leadership Development Programme – tailored to support colleagues to work successfully in our Integrated Care System.

In terms of governance, our BSW Integrated Care Board initial draft Constitution and Partner Board Member Nominations Process has been submitted to NHS England and Improvement (NHS EI) and, in our three localities, work continues to develop governance structures and financial and leadership arrangements. Our BSW System Development Plan received positive feedback from NHS EI with areas outlined for further development. The submission date for the final iteration of the plan is 14th February 2022.

In the new year we look ahead to the launch of our BSW Academy, agreement about our operating model and more releasing more details of our ICB committee arrangements.
