Opportunities for people with Learning Disability and Autism to deliver new Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training

BSW Integrated Care Board is currently looking for people with lived experience of Learning Disability and Autism to deliver, with our supporting Lead Trainer, training to BSW Healthcare colleagues, both virtually and face to face.

The position offers flexible working hours, paid at £18 per hour.   Full support and training as well as transport will be supplied.

The Oliver McGowan Mandatory Training on Learning Disability and Autism is named after Oliver McGowan, whose death highlighted the need for health and social care staff to have better skills, knowledge and understanding of the needs for autistic people and those with a learning disability.

In July 2022, the Health and Care Act introduced a requirement for health and social care employees to receive training on learning disabilities and autism with the Oliver McGowan training being the preferred route.    BSW will be rolling out this training to healthcare providers in June 2023 and health colleagues will be required to book onto sessions.

If you have or know someone with learning disability or autism and are interested in this great opportunity, please contact awp.patientexperienceteam@nhs.net for more information.
