Building work on new Children’s Emergency Unit completed

Building work on a new Children’s Emergency Unit at the Great Western Hospital in Swindon has been completed, with the milestone celebrated with the help of local school pupils.

Children from nearby Shaw Ridge Primary School visited the Swindon hospital to cut the ribbon at the entrance to the new department at the beginning of October.

The new unit is another component of the hospital’s wider Integrated Front Door programme, which recently saw the main emergency department expanded.

With 13 cubicles, two high acuity bays and one resuscitation bay, the new unit also boasts a baby and breastfeeding room, a sensory play area and a wellbeing space for young patients experiencing a mental health crisis.

More information about the new unit can be found online at www.gwh.nhs.uk.
