Progress on new Emergency Department in Swindon

Great Western Hospital NHS Foundation Trust has marked the first anniversary of successfully securing  £30 million of funding for urgent and emergency care development by sharing a new video offering a preview of its new Emergency Department (ED).

Set to open in just a few months’ time, the new ED will have a 60 per cent bigger footprint than the existing department, more majors cubicles offering more room for staff to asses patients, resuscitation rooms and two dedicated rooms for relatives.

Later in the autumn, GWH will also be opening a new Children’s Emergency Unit bringing together children’s emergency care with paediatric assessment, and will be moving Same Day Emergency Care and the Medical Expected Unit into the existing Emergency Department space which will have been refurbished.

GWH charity, Brighter Futures is currently fundraising for the extra special touches needed in the new Emergency Department, and there are lots of opportunities for local people to get involved in raising money this year.
