Inspiring the next generation of health and care workers

Work experience is a fantastic way for potential new recruits to gain insight into a particular career, gain confidence by working in a team and have the opportunity to find out what life working in health and care is really like.

For the organisations that make up the BSW Together Integrated Care System, offering work experience placements is also a valuable thing to do, it promotes our organisations as good employers in local communities, engages and inspires young people and allows staff to develop new skills in supervision and mentoring as part of their continuing professional development.

BSW Together ICS is keen to support those looking to start careers in health and care and has recently launched a new website which will make it easier for people to find work experience placements.

The website also provides an overview of a number of different health and care careers and offer a short virtual course covering the skills and values needed for these careers, routes into the health system and even insights into the many benefits of working in health and social care.

Those completing the course will gain a certificate which will be useful for personal statements for university applications, interviews and job applications.

The BSW Academy is also hosting an event targeted at teams involved in inspiring the next generation of health and care workers

The BSW Academy Best Practice in Giving Careers Advice and Support workshop takes place in Bradford on Avon on Thursday 26 October and is targeted at those involved in offering career advice, support and work experience planning.

The workshop promises presenters from across BSW who will share their experiences and learning alongside workshops to help identify what support is needed to ensure that all young people have the opportunity to understand how fantastic a career in health and care can be.
