Super Saturday sees extra children’s Covid-19 clinics stood up across region

Vulnerable children from across BSW were offered an additional opportunity to get protected against Covid-19 in early December as part of the ICB’s Super Saturday.

Extra vaccination clinics took place on Saturday 7 December to help those most at risk of becoming ill to stay healthy ahead of the festive season.

Children aged between five and 17 years who had been identified as more susceptible to Covid-19, such as those with poorly controlled asthma and other conditions that affect the immune system, were invited to have the vaccine.

Five walk-in vaccination clinics were held in Chippenham, Bath, Salisbury, Marlborough and Swindon.

Dr Barry Coakley, Deputy Chief Medical Officer, Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire Integrated Care Board, said: “Super Saturday is a great opportunity for children and young people who have yet to be protected against Covid-19 to go into this winter season with their immunity levels topped up.

“Covid-19 remains a significant threat to our health, and the vaccine is particularly important for those children and young people who have health conditions that put them at a higher risk of falling ill.”

So far this autumn and winter, more than half a million flu and Covid-19 vaccinations have been given out across Bath and North East Somerset, Swindon and Wiltshire.
