If you have a non-life-threatening illness or injury, there are lots of ways you can access advice and care without going to an Emergency Department. This allows emergency staff to concentrate on people with serious, life-threatening conditions and will save you a potentially long wait.
There are three urgent treatment centres in our region, run by experienced clinicians who can treat minor illnesses and injuries, such as:
- fractures and lacerations
- insect and animal bites
- stitches (sutures)
- dressing care
- minor cuts and bruises
- minor burns and strains
Appointments for urgent treatment centres are accessed by visiting NHS 111 online or calling NHS 111. Patients attending the Emergency Department may be seen by a triage nurse and given an urgent treatment centre timed arrival slot if appropriate.

If you need health advice and treatment for:
- Minor illness, e.g. infection and rashes, stomach upsets
- Minor injuries, e.g cuts and bruises, burns and strains
- Emergency contraception e.g. Morning after pill and repeat contraceptive pill prescription
Salisbury Walk-in Health Centre is open:
- Monday – Friday, 6.30pm – 10pm
- Saturday – Sunday and bank holidays, 8am – 8pm
You do not need to make an appointment, walk-in to the Health Centre and we will provide you with appropriate care.

Our services provide fast, expert care for minor injuries, helping you get the treatment you need without the wait of an Emergency Department visit. If you are unsure which is the right place for your condition, call NHS 111 for advice.

The RUH Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC) is for patients who have an urgent need to see a GP or practitioner but whose illness or injury is not life-threatening and does not require a visit to the Emergency Department.
The UTC at the RUH is open between the hours of 8am and 10pm, 7 days a week.

Patients arriving to hospital for urgent or emergency care must enter the hospital through the Urgent Treatment Centre (UTC), located at the west entrance of the Great Western Hospital.
Patients will be triaged at the door by a Clinical Navigator who will signpost them to the right place for their care, which could be the Emergency Department, Urgent Treatment Centre or an assessment unit.
The Urgent Treatment Centre is open 7.00am – 10.00pm.
